Christmas is Coming!

7 Comments/ 380/ 0

If you know me well you know that I don’t decorate for the Christmas holidays until after Thanksgiving. Never have and probably never will. I just like to enjoy Thanksgiving and all of the things that come with it. But It is about this time of year that I start to get excited because it is time for Christmas Blessings at Sharing House.

The shelves are stocked and the back rooms are filling up with replacements for all of this and more when these are selected. it’s the most wonderful time of the year.

.

All who are interested in shopping for their children are welcome to make an appointment beginning November 20, 2024. For 33 years, Sharing House has helped Transylvania County parents create magical holiday moments for their children with new toys, games, and stocking stuffers. Make an appointment by calling 828-884-2866.

.

Many organizations and groups help collect toys that are included in the Christmas Blessings program. From Angel Trees in churches and area businesses to toy collection events like the one the Connestee Fall Women’s Club sponsored that I had the privilege to help with – people all over our county are making a point to add a special toy to their shopping to be shared.

.

Our local independent bookstore, Highland Books, has again partnered with Sharing House and is sponsoring a book drive to be given to each child that is registered to receive gifts. I LOVE this project and have appointed myself to be in charge of promoting this as much as I can. It’s a great way to get a nice new book in the hands of a child at Christmas.

This year especially I feel like this is a great way to give back to the community. Hurricane Helene has really hit Western North Carolina hard and people continue to struggle. If you don’t have a place to make a donation this Christmas in your area I would encourage you to donate either through Highland Books online store here or through the Sharing House Amazon Gift List here. Thank you for thinking of the kids this year.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
