It’s March already and I am wondering how we are already in March. Looking back at January and February I guess I have done a lot and judging from my absence here on the blog last week you might have noticed I was otherwise engaged. That’s all okay, isn’t it? When I lightened up my own expectations of myself and how often I post something on It’s Just Life, I really freed myself up to offer up posts when I feel like writing and it has been working out well for me. But today I have to write because it is the first of the month and that means it is Comments for a Cause day here on the old blog.
.
This past month we highlighted the WNC FireWood Ministry here in Transylvania County. You can read my blog post here. Simply put this ministry helps residents in our county to get free firewood to help heat their homes in the cold winter months. It is a lifesaver for many and I am happy to share that Chris and I will be making a small donation in an effort to continue to support this important ministry here in our area. Thanks to all who take the time to read and comment and support our efforts in highlighting causes every month.
This month is National Kidney Month and I wanted to give a shout out to the National Kidney Foundation. This hardworking foundation has a fabulous mission:
To revolutionize the fight to save lives by eliminating preventable kidney disease, accelerating innovation for the dignity of the patient experience, and dismantling structural inequities in kidney care, dialysis, and transplantation.
We are devoted to bringing fair, equitable, and innovative treatment for kidney health to ALL patients through driving public action, advancing education and awareness and accelerating change.
How about a few kidney facts to kick off National Kidney Month?
Of the 200 quarts of fluid your kidneys filter each day, about 198 quarts are recovered and 2 quarts exit as urine.
Your bladder stores urine for anywhere from one to eight hours
One in three American adults is at risk for kidney disease.
You may be at risk for kidney disease if you are over age 60 or if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or a first degree relative with kidney failure.
You can prevent kidney disease and protect your kidneys by not smoking, drinking only moderate amounts of alcohol, losing weight if you’re overweight, eating a healthy, low salt diet and exercising.
Seeing how one in three American adults are at risk for kidney disease it is important to support organizations that help with advocacy and education. So this month, let’s give our kidneys some support and for every comment made on any post on It’s Just Life, Chris and I will make a 50 cent donation to the National Kidney Foundation. As always, thanks for reading and commenting. It all counts and every small donation makes a difference in the life of someone with kidney disease.
