Comments for a Cause – It’s All About the Children

Leave a Comment/ 14/ 0

Happy April 1st. No jokes here – it’s already April and we are springing into warmer weather and full blown allergies. If you know you know. Ah choo!

It’s Just Life is happy to continue the monthly tradition of highlighting a special cause of the month. I’ve been doing this since April 2011 and even though my comment load is not as robust as it once was, there are still many faithful readers, both new and long time, who continue to show up around the first of the month to read about the new cause. A deep thank you to all who take the time to pop over. It means much more than you know.

This past month we highlighted the fact that it was National Kidney Month. Kidneys are important and you can read more about our highlighted charity – National Kidney Foundation – by clicking here to go to the post I wrote at the beginning of March. Chris and I are happy to make a small donation to this amazing charity thanks to you showing up here and reading and leaving a comment.

The Children’s Center of Transylvania County is yet another wonderful organization that does great work here in Transylvania County. For over 30 years, The Children’s Center has been dedicated to supporting and protecting children at risk of abuse and neglect.

Key programs of the center include:

Family Visitation and Safe Exchange Program: Family Visitation allows parents in high conflict or high-risk situations access to their children in a safe and supervised environment. This could be a child in foster care or living with another parent / guardian, court mandated or not. Safe Exchange Program provides a safe, neutral setting for children to transition between caregivers when conflict, safety concerns, or court involvement make exchanges difficult.

Emergency Assistance: Special help for families in crisis, including resource information and referrals, children’s clothing, diapers, housing support, bill aid, and safety gifts such as first aid kits, outlet covers and smoke detectors.

The Nurturing Parenting Program: An early intervention program aimed at stopping child abuse and neglect before it begins. Parenting classes are also offered to assist families in feeling more confident and competent about managing day-to-day life.

CONNECT: A program designed to keep families stable and safe, to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to support families who may not be served by traditional community agencies.

Kids Are Not Trash: Distribution of duffel bags and luggage to children leaving their homes for placement in foster care or group homes. This eliminates the practice of carrying all their worldly possessions in a garbage bag.

Baby Think It Over Program: A hands-on, parenting experience for local teens using an infant simulator.

Wonderful programs to assist both children and parents, offering support and practical necessities to support during times of insecurity and unknown are available.

I am thrilled to highlight The Children’s Center of Transylvania County as the Comments for a Cause recipient during April. For any comment made on any post Chris and I will make a 50 cent donation to help support their cause. Please feel free to check out their website by clicking here for more information.
