The Rumble Strips of Life

1 Comment/ 19/ 0

The pastor at Faith Memorial Chapel this past week talked about his ride to the chapel and how he hit a few rumble strips on the way up our curvy mountain roads. I knew EXACLY what he was talking about.

The main road that you have to take to get from Brevard to our development is a very windy and mountainous road. One time I counted and I think there are 43 curves from the edge of Brevard till you get to our road. That is a lot of twists and turns and I don’t always keep it between the mustard and the mayonnaise as our son Aaron says. When that happens I hit those rumble strips either on the mustard or the mayonnaise and I am jolted back to correct and get into the middle of lane.

I will admit to having had a lot on my mind the past week and a half. I think I have hit a few rumble strips of my own. An unexpected dental adventure, meetings upon meetings, taking over a new volunteer leadership position where I feel a bit out of my comfort zone, wrangling committees and just the general trying to get back into the groove after vacation and getting ready to go on another vacation things. It has all taken a bit of a toll and I can feel those rumble strips coming at me.

It’s all good and I have a plan but I bet you know what I am talking about. Those bumps that come along that are totally unexpected that kind of knock you off for a bit. I am determined to stay on top and stay between the mustard and mayonnaise!

The bottom line is that God is there ahead of me and if I can just live each day with that knowledge in front of me, those rumble strips are less of an annoyance and can be dealt with. I’ve got this. What about you? Have you experienced any rumble strips lately and how are you dealing with them?

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
