Tis the season for a lot of great events in Transylvania County and I am getting pretty darn excited about all that is going on. If only I could clone myself.
This weekend is the annual Looking Glass Writers’ Conference and this is the first year I am going to be able to attend the free author events that accompany the conference. In past years I have had conflicts but this year I am going to make it happen and guess what? Chris is going to go with me so that makes it even better.
The Looking Glass Writers’ Conference takes place in Brevard at the Brevard College Campus from May 15-18, 2025. It is a small conference to promote more interaction with the teachers and is limited to only 36 students who have to apply and are chosen to be a part of the conference. The best thing for our community is that there are free community gatherings with the authors and that is what I will be attending this year. The speakers this year include the following authors.

It’s going to be a great event. To read more about it just click here.

The next fun event will be be White Squirrel Weekend, May 24th-26th presented by DD Bullwinkel’s Outdoors. This is the most fun event that we all look forward to all year. The event offers live music, a staple of Brevard, food trucks, artisans and vendors of all kinds and plenty of fun for all ages.

The event is sponsored by DD Bullwinkles, one of our great downtown merchants in cooperation with the Heart of Brevard. It really is a great event and one where the town comes together for.

One more thing that is going on that I will be spending a few hours helping with is Pack the Pantry sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pisgah Forest to benefit Sharing House which will be Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Volunteers will be ready at the courthouse gazebo, Ingles Grocery, Dollar Tree, and Sav-Mor, handing out “most needed” shopping lists to make donations easy and impactful.
Sharing House shares that this spring, the 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐬 𝟓,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐩𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 $𝟓,𝟎𝟎𝟎 to support neighbors facing hunger. Every can, box, and dollar goes directly to providing healthy food through our Neighbors Market—offering personal choice through in-person shopping, mobile delivery, and even online ordering!
Last year Sharing House shared 𝟏𝟐𝟏,𝟎𝟎𝟎+ 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟑𝟔𝟎,𝟏𝟕𝟐 𝐩𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 across our community. It is a need that will continue and Pack the Pantry is a great way to help make a difference.
So that is what I will be doing the next couple of weeks. What is going on in your area that gets you excited to attend? I would love to know so leave me a comment and Comment for a Cause for Mental Health America.
