My love of books is no secret and on our recent trip to Alaska, Chris indulged me multiple times and helped me seek out bookstores to visit. By far the most impressive one was found in Homer, Alaska and goes by the name of Old Inlet Bookshop. Owned and run by Andy Wills, this one was one for the books. We ate at the attached restaurant, The Mermaid Cafe, for lunch and saved the book store adventure for post lunch.
I was very glad I had fueled up for the adventure.
The shop is something that you really have to see to believe. It is 1000 square feet of wall to wall books. And I am not talking just the walls….the stacks of books run far past the walls and shelves.
.
.
Yes, That is a counter behind that stack of books. But wait. There’s more.
.
.
.
Each section is labeled with the genre and owner Andy Wills could tell you where everything is located. He knows his inventory and knows what stack holds what treasure.
.
.
Thankfully the stairs were clear or I never would have made it to the second floor which housed the fiction and children’s area.
.
.
Every room boasted new treasures.

Andy specializes in rare and unique books and is always happy to help a customer find that perfect book.
.
.
How does he ring up your books that you can’t leave without? All manually written out and calculated by hand.

I was in awe and thankful that there were chairs on the porch for Chris to sit and read the book he purchased while I spent as much time as I wanted to inside. What a fun store. What a fun owner. What a great place to spend some time while in Homer. There is a really great article here written about the history of the shop and owner Andy. Definitely worth a click on over to read.
