Fishing : A Father Son Adventure Makes Memories

36 Comments/ 560/ 1

My men went fishing this past weekend.  It was the First Annual Father Son Fishing Trip.

I can no l longer call them boys.  They are full grown bearded men as you will see in my pictures.

The trip was a birthday present from the boys to their dad and there was a lot of planning and preparation that went into the event.  I am happy to report that it was a very successful weekend.  Even if I did not go along I was thrilled that they were able to spend some great time together and the bonus was that I got some time with the boys after the trip before they headed home.

Chris loves to fish the Tuckaseegee River and has a great guide, Matt Canter, who is top notch.  Matt manages Brookings Anglers which has locations in Cashiers and Highlands, North Carolina.  On this trip another guide Roger went along as well to help out the new fly fishermen.

If you are a serious fly fisherman this is definitely the place for you.  I have been in their Cashiers shop a few times and have seen first hand all of the equipment they have to make any fisherman happy.

Buddy

Of course it doesn’t hurt that their shop dog, Buddy, is so lovable.

Love their tagline.

The Friday / Saturday adventure included both drift boat and wading fishing and both days were highly successful.  Neither of the boys had ever gone fly fishing before but they both caught on quickly and fish were caught (and released) successfully.  Chris had a great time watching them and caught a few of his own as well.

The leaves on the trees where they were fishing were in full and glorious color and I suspect that by the end of this week they will all be gone.  It has been beautiful  in North Carolina and enjoying the fall weather on a stream was pretty much the perfect way to celebrate the season.

Both boys caught great fish and Aaron came away with the biggest fish  – a 25 inch rainbow trout.  It was huge from reports and the pictures supported that so I don’t think it was a fish story.

I love this photo that Matt took with the train in the background.

My heart is always happy when my family is together and this was a great time for my guys. I had my own fly fishing adventure that you can read about here. Even if I didn’t go along I did provide the chocolate chip cookies.

If you are ever looking for a great fly fishing adventure check out Brookings Anglers

They have some great pictures on Instagram and also on Facebook so check out their pages to see some great photography as well.
