Blast from the Past

7 Comments/ 450/ 0

Decorating for Christmas is always a time that evokes a lot of memories. From the decorations that were part of my childhood to the nativities and teapots that I have acquired over the years – it all brings memories flooding back.

This year is no different even though I am not decorating to the extent that I usually do. I am streamlining a bit and that is okay. I did decide to get together all of my children’s Christmas books sorted out so that when Theo is here we can have a lot of reading time together. It was these books that brought a smile and a few tears as well.

This book was one that was well loved and read frequently. I actually found that we had two copies of the same book and I am pretty sure we got them for Micah’s second Christmas. Anybody remember this one?

.

.

Both of the books were inscribed and that is what I treasure. The first one was gifted to Micah from his Great Grandma Bonnie- my mom’s mom.

.

.

The second copy from his Orlando neighborhood buddy, Mitchell, who was born a couple months after him. His mom, Virginia, and I remain friends today with the occasional visit when we travel to Florida. Coincindentally she also has a grandson named Theo.

.

.

I love seeing things like this that remind me of those who were important in my life and those that still are even if they are no longer with us. It’s a blessing to be able to recall those memories and to share them with our own family.

Do you have any Christmas books like this that you pull out every year? I am excited to share them with Theo because among the new titles I have this year, I have a lot of these older books that his Daddy listened to years ago. The tradition continues.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

An Abundance of Katherines

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
