Chihuly After Dark at The Biltmore – Part Two

18 Comments/ 519/ 0

American Artist Dale Chihuly is a creative genius who uses glass as his medium.  His works of art are in over 200 museum collections across the world and The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC is fortunate to have their first ever art exhibition be one that contains the amazing work of Dale Chihuly.

The installation has taken nearly two years from planning to the actual installation in the gardens on the estate.  The sculptures are located both in the house, the gardens and there even two located in the Antler Hill Village area.   Each piece has a voice of its own and are captivating both during daytime and night time viewing.

Sole d’ora located in the lawn area outside the front of the house is probably the most spectacular piece in this collection when viewed at night.

The light that shines on the Sole d’Ora makes it shimmer and shine from every angle.

Chris and I have been fortunate enough to spend some time viewing them both during the day and during the night  time and each offers its own experience.

Palazzo Ducal Tower is located in the center of the Italian Gardens and is a lovely display.

The Fiori Boat located in the Italian Gardens

Neodymium Reeds with Fiori Verdi were simply stunning.

Just look at that detail.

We were happy to discover this whole section in the Pergola that we had missed in our previous trip.

It is difficult for me to pick a favorite out of all of the pieces but I would have to say the one that is front and center in front of the house The Sole d”Ora is pretty spectacular both during the day and during the night exhibit.  It is a statement piece and got its place front and center for a good reason. Check out my post from yesterday to see more of the sculptures at night.

If you are interested in learning more about The Biltmore and the Chihuly Exhibit visit their website here to get all the details.  One thing I can say about the Biltmore is that they have well trained staff who are very helpful and courteous.  We have never had a bad experience and we have visited plenty over the past three years.  Our first visit was in 1999 and a lot has changed since then but definitely for the better.

If you do plan to visit  please let me know.  I would love to come meet you when you are on the estate.  Don’t forget to leave a Comment for a Cause.
