Happy October! Can you believe that fall is here already? I can’t but here we go anyway.
Our Comments for a Cause in September was one that I ran across on someone else’s Facebook feed. I love what Special Books by Special Kids does and was thrilled to be able to highlight this fabulous organization with my readers. This organization was founded by teacher Chris Ulmer who as a special education teacher saw the unique spirit and personalities of the students he taught. His dream is to publish a book that highlights the intelligence and humor that these children have and to have that eventually turn into a series for classroom use. His fear is that the neurodiverse community is so often isolated from society and he wants to change that reality. While he has not had a book published quite yet he has done an amazing job of documenting some of these stories in video form which you can view here.
I am thrilled that thanks to all the comments from my readers this month on It’s Just Life Chris and I will be making a donation of $143.50 to Special Books by Special Kids to help with their efforts .
October has always been the month for CROP Walks. Growing up I usually walked in a CROP walk and raised money to help fight hunger. I have not walked for a few years but always find a way to support this worthy cause. This October even though I am not walking myself I plan to support CROP and all that it does. CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations or groups to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world.
So what does CROP stand for and what do they do? According to their website:
When CROP began in 1947 (under the wing of Church World Service, which was founded in 1946), CROP was an acronym for the Christian Rural Overseas Program. Its primary mission was to help Midwest farm families to share their grain with hungry neighbors in post-World War II Europe and Asia.
Today, we’ve outgrown the acronym but we retain it as the historic name of the program.
These are very sobering facts.
So what do you say? Are YOU willing to make a difference this month? Any comment on any post during October means that Chris and I will make a 50 cent donation to CROP with a cap of $500. If you are walking yourself please let me know in the comment section so I can support you as well.
If you want to make a donation yourself please consider supporting my sister, Paula, who will be walking with her group in Ashland, Ohio. To go to her personal fundraising page please click here. I know she would really appreciate any support that you were able to offer.
Please feel free to follow CROP on any of their social media outlets below.
