Comments for a Cause – Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month

4 Comments/ 127/ 0

June has arrived and the summer is looking to be coming in full force. My calendar is full with a lot of great things and I am excited to embrace it all. But with the beginning of the month comes Comments for a Cause here on It’s Just Life. It is something I have done since 2011 and has been one of the best things I share here. Each month I highlight a cause and present a few facts about the non profit and what they do. At the end of the month, Chris and I donate 50 cents per comment (or more) to the highlighted charity and we are grateful to be able to continue to do this.

.

During the month of May I highlighted Mental Health America because it was Mental Health Awareness month. This organization is the nation’s leading national nonprofit dedicated to the promotion of mental health, well-being, and condition prevention. With resources, mental health support and conferences, this organization is helping to move mental health to the forefront to help increase visibility to the challenges that face those who need mental health care as well as helping to reduce the stigma that so often accompanies those who need help with their mental health. We have made some strides in this area but so much work is still needed to be done.

Chris and I are happy to make a donation to Mental Health America and to support them with a small donation to help with their efforts.

I have highlighted the Alzheimer’s Association before on It’s Just Life but since June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, it seems only appropriate to highlight this worthy organization again.

This month we are reminded to take care of our brain health and the Alzheimer’s Association has a few suggestions as to how to do that.

Incorporate healthy habits that may reduce the risk of cognitive decline.

Learn the early warning signs of Alzheimer’s and other dementia.

Be proactive in addressing memory and thinking problems.

Help accelerate disease-related research.

If you are interested in finding out more please feel free to click here to go directly to the Alzheimer’s Association website where you can learn everything about the disease, get support and resources and donate if you would like.

Thank you for always stopping by, commenting and supporting me in this space. So many of our lives have been touched by Alzheimer’s in some way or another and it is a good to be able to highlight and bring light to a disease that can be devastating to so many. As always, your comments are so meaningful to me and I am grateful for the chance to continue Comments for a Cause.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...
