Welcome 2026! Fire up the fireworks and serve up the sparkling drinks! I am ready for you!
Hard to believe that we are in 2026 and the month of January is already well under way! I hope everyone had a fabulous holiday however you celebrated and that the new year is shaping up to be pretty fantastic . I am still recovering from the family time at our house and while I may not have everything back in the right place and things all put together, I am getting there.

Last month I highlighted Cove Shelter here in Brevard, North Carolina, where they provide a multitude of services for the folks in our area that are unhoused. The shelter is now open every night from November to March for folks to come to get a hot meal, a warm place to sleep, showers and laundry facilities. This is an essential need in our area as our unhoused numbers increase and I am thrilled to be able to make a small donation to their efforts as a result of the comments received on the blog during this month. Thank you each for taking the time to read and comment.

January is National Volunteer Blood Donor Month (NVBDM). To increase awareness of blood donation the nations leading blood donation organizations, America’s Blood Centers, AABB, and the American Red Cross, have joined together to promote NVBDM. First-time and regular donors are encouraged to make a difference to their communities by scheduling an appointment to give blood this January. Remember, just one pint of blood can help save up to three lives.
I decided to focus on American Red Cross this month as our Comments for a Cause recipient this month. This charity has a perfect Charity Navigator rating and is the first place that I think of when I think of blood donation. I believe in their vision and in their. mission. They make the donation process really easy and answer all of your potential questions on their website. To find a local blood drive simply click here to plug in your zipcode.
.
Even if you aren’t able to donate blood for whatever reason, there are still ways that you can support blood donations. Host a blood drive, start a virtual blood drive, make a monetary donation or become a volunteer. All of these are important ways that an individual can help.
Please think about the ways you can help during National Volunteer Blood Donor Month. Schedule a blood donation or make a monetary donation of your own. For every comment made on the blog this month Chris and I will donate 50 cents to American Red Cross. Don’t forget to check out the links below to learn more about American Red Cross.
