Comments for a Cause – Sharing With the Community

8 Comments/ 466/ 1

August 1st finds us in month 5 of our altered life due to the current Covid -19 pandemic and who would have ever thought we would be at this point? I guess our new normal is just that – the new normal. One thing that remains the same, however, is my commitment to give back where I can. This past month I was involved in a Fill the Bus Back to School Clothing Drive here in Connestee Falls. We had a great time and were able to get a lot of wonderful donations for our local school children who will be going back to the classroom on a limited basis on August 17th.

Thanks to the anticipated comments on the blog I went ahead and purchased some new clothing for the effort and donated it on the day of the drive. Chris and I were thrilled to be able to donate $200 worth of clothing to our local children as they go back to school. Thank you to all who have so faithfully commented and been so great about consistently supporting me in my writing here on It’s Just Life.

I have featured this recipient before back in December 2015 but I had no first hand knowledge of what an amazing job they do in our community. I few years later and I am all the wiser after having helped with a food drive for our own Transylvania Christian Ministry, Inc. Sharing House. We were happy to do a food drive in May here in Connestee Falls and when I helped deliver the thousands of pounds of food I realized what a terrific ministry this really is in our county. I decided it was time to feature them again because they truly do help our community in tough times.

I love what this organization stands for, don’ t you?  I especially love how they have spelled out their core values on their website:

Hope We believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person without regard to race, age, creed, gender or social standing. We honor each individual’s desire and search for future good.

Compassion We provide an atmosphere of non-judgmental listening, respect and assistance where priority is given to the emotional, spiritual and physical needs of all persons.

Integrity We adhere to moral and ethical principles in all things. Our words and actions are consistently open, honest and ethical.

Teamwork We honor a culture of client-centered teamwork where the contributions of staff, volunteers and clients are valued.

This organization was started in 1981 out of a desire to provide for those locally and to take seriously the command to “love our neighbors as ourselves.”  Backed by over 40 congregations and innumerable individuals and groups this organization is making  a difference in the lives of those who are served.  Volunteers are vital and each volunteer is very important in the ongoing operation of this organization.

Please join me this month in supporting the ministries of Transylvania Christian Ministries, Inc. With each comment made on any post during the month Chris and I will donate 50 cents to their efforts in our county. It takes all of us working together to help make this world a better place. Thanks as always for your interest, your comments and your support.

I am taking Monday off from blogging but make sure to pop back over on Tuesday for a really fun and whimsical Teapot Tuesday. You won’t want to miss it.
