Dancing into April

22 Comments/ 485/ 0

April is here. Wahoo! That deserves an exclamation mark, don’t you think? It sometimes feels like winter drags on and on and when the calendar changes to April there is somehow a sense of anticipation and excitement that better weather and days are ahead.

Last week Chris and I flew to San Diego for what was to be a combined work (for him ) and pleasure trip for both of us. It was going to center around finally seeing out sweet niece Rebekah perform with her dance company where she is the artistic director. In all of her 27 + years of dancing we have NEVER seen her perform live. That is a crime, right? So when we found out her H2O Dance Company was having performances we said we would be there.

Plans changed. Work plans became virtual and delayed but we kept the flights, the hotel and car and made it all about fun. We did have so much fun and the bonus was FAMILY! Not only did we get to see Rebekah, we saw my brothers Chris and Mark and sister in law Shari.

We were able to attend the first performance of Tempus Incrementum (Season of Growth) at the Light Box Theater in San Diego and it was simply wonderful. Rebekah is so gifted at what she does and her choreography (from a non dance expert’s perspective) was simply magical.

Her talented group of artists presented a thoroughly enchanting performance and I was so happy to be there. The bonus was that Rebekah had a solo dance which showcased her so wonderfully. What a gift.

I didn’t get any pictures during the performance, obviously, but did take a screen shot of this on their Instagram page later.

Of course any adventure with me means just that – there has to be something to add to the story. When we went into the theater we got our hands stamped with Rebekah’s new H2O stamp. She was super excited to have that stamp. I get it. I love things like that.

Fast forward to the next morning when I got up and looked in the hotel mirror and discovered that I now had H2O stamped on the side of my face. Obviously I am not a “clubber” and did not get the memo to make sure I washed my stamp off before I hit the hay the night before. Fortunately, the ink came off with a little scrubbing and I didn’t have to advertise H2O Dance Company for days.

So a fun filled night, time with family enjoying a truly beautiful performance made our trip simply 2fabulous. Stay tuned this week for more about our trip.
