We had a lovely anniversary trip last week and while we were not able to tour the yak farm that I wanted to see we made the best of it and had a marvelous time without the yaks. We only spent one rainy night in Knoxville but it was a fun place to walk around and since our hotel was right next to the Sunsphere and the World’s Fair Park we got a few steps in while sightseeing in the heat.
.
The Sunsphere was built for the 1982 Worlds Fair and is a one-of-a-kind structure. The 4th Floor Observation Deck offers a 360-degree view stretching from downtown to the Great Smoky Mountains including World’s Fair Park, the Tennessee River and the University of Tennessee Campus.
The World’s Fair Park was created for the 1982 World’s Fair Exhibition and the theme was “Energy Turns the World”.

Sweaty tourists.

The area around the Sunsphere has fountains and fun things to look at and we enjoyed a quick look around before dinner.

.
There was a fun mural painted on one of the overpasses and after I read the plaque I knew it was really even more special.

Knoxville has a lot to see and I wouldn’t mind going back on a cooler and less rainy day sometime. Have you been? I know we missed a ton of stuff but it was a quick night there before we headed on our way to our other destinations.
