Did You Say Aluminum Tree?

13 Comments/ 546/ 0

Every year the Transylvania Heritage Museum, located in Brevard, North Carolina, hosts a very special exhibit and I FINALLY got to see it. I have tried for years but their hours of operation just never seemed to work with my schedule and I let each year pass without making it a priority to go visit. This year Chris and I have been doing ALL of the holiday things and I do mean all. Probably to the point that we need a day off from doing holiday fun. No, never.

The exhibit is called the Atom Aluminum Tree Exhibit and is fabulous. Remember those shiny aluminum trees that were so popular years ago? This is the place to go to see a fabulous collection of trees from days gone by.

A quick explanation that ATOM stands for Aluminum Tree and Aesthetically Challenged Seasonal Ornament Museum and Research Center. The first aluminum tree appeared in 1958 and sadly, by 1968, most companies no longer carried them. So the relics that remain are truly spectacular examples of a time gone by.

While the trees do come in various colors the silver version appears to the be the most popular one and the one that the museum has the most examples of.

.

.

The trees take on different personalities depending upon the ornaments that are placed on them.

A little bit of information about the curator of the fabulous tree collection that is on display. Thanks to Stephen Jackson for this display.

Of course there is a little humor in the exhibit which made me giggle.

.

So what do you think? Should there be a revival? Do you remember having one of these spectacular trees? Should we bring them back? I want to hear what you think so leave me a comment and Comment for a Cause for Sharing House.
