The last post I shared that Mr. Diamond and I were celebrating 43 years of marriage. We had a little get away to celebrate–just drove 2 hours or so to go to another part of Western North Carolina to get away and celebrate for a couple of days. It was. a very laid back trip and we happily spent it that way.
We were talking about some of the things, as couples do, that we have done over the years and things we have learned. Top of the list — never say that you know how your life will go because God definitely has plans for each of us that we discover along the way and in our case those plans have been pretty darn wonderful.
But perhaps one of the lessons learned is to grab the moment and seize the day. Sometimes that means eating the pie. Stay with me.
We had walked to a little restaurant the first night from our 70’s style lodge accommodations and had a really decent meal. It was the place the locals went so you know it had to be good if the locals were there. We had a nice waitress who gave us some recommendations and we happily chowed down. But then there was pie. I mean pie is my weakness and I just had a feeling that Famous Louise’s Rockhouse Restaurant had pie that was worthy of writing a blog post about. I was not wrong. I had Strawberry Rhubarb and Chris had Blackberry.

Mine was fresh out of the oven and so very good.
The following night we had reservations at a fancy restaurant farther away and you know what? We canceled those and walked back to Louise’s because that pie—that pie was so doggone good.

Another lesson learned in 43 years of marriage that sometimes it is a good idea to share a meal which we did this night and dined on a freshly grilled ribeye that was grilled up out back and one of their specialties. It was perfectly done and once again, our waitress Amber, gave us great recommendations. She was spot on and yep –we both ordered the blackberry pie that night. Winner winner.
If you had told me that I would be eating pie in a little wide spot in the road in Western North Carolina on my 43rd anniversary the day I got married I would have probably laughed at you. But life is good and so is pie. So take my advice and eat the pie when you can.
