Featherwood

If you have read the bestseller Theo of Golden by Allen Levi, you might know what that title is all about. I won’t ruin the story for you if you haven’t read it and you definitely need to. I have read the book once and listened to it on audiobook twice since 2024. It is one of those books that I have found elicits pretty strong feelings one way or the other. As for me, I loved it. I have given it as gifts, shared my first edition signed copy at least five times (you know that I really love the book if I share that copy) and still I am singing its praises.

Some of our Gola book club ladies.

My book club here in Connestee is one of the best groups I have been a part of. We are all diverse women with definite stances and opinions on all kinds of things but we have such a respect for one another that it has become a safe place. We share openly and even if the book we read each. month is not our favorite, we are able to respectfully listen to each other and have meaningful discussions. We really do have discussions. I know a lot of book clubs don’t really stick to discussing the books that are read but we do and it is always such a great discussion.

Last month we discussed Theo of Golden and one of our very talented and artistic members (of which we have many) created featherwoods for us to help us remember the book. The featherwood plays a central part in the book and we all were given the base and some feathers and other items to place in the base. Of course Lane, who made them, encouraged us to create them however we wanted to and this month those of us who were able to attend brought them back to show off. They all looked so wonderful and it was such a sweet gift.

I love a good book, a good discussion and these women who inspire me and open my eyes to new ways of looking at things. Tell me, are you in a book club? If so, what is your format? Do you actually discuss the books you read or is it more of a social gathering? I would love to hear all about it so leave me a comment and Comment for a Cause for WNC FireWood Ministry.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
