For The Beauty of the Earth

18 Comments/ 358/ 0

It is pretty much my favorite time of year.

You know that time -spring.

The trees are leafing out in that vibrant bright green color.

The sun is shining brilliantly after a pretty horrific couple of stormy days last week which led to flooding in many areas.

The morning fog rises up off the lake as I look out the bedroom door.

It’s absolutely my favorite thing to wake up in the morning and watch the morning unfold outside the french doors in our bedroom. I have a perfect seat to watch the morning begin. From brilliant sunrises to soft morning glow – it warms my soul to watch each morning explode in all of its beauty.

Perhaps it is because we have so much rain here in our temperate rain forest area but for whatever reason it is mornings like these that jumpstart my day and make me so grateful for life.

This morning as I watch morning unfold the lake is laden with pollen on the surface giving the water a yellow tinge. The deer are across the lake cavorting in and out of the woods and I suspect there is a new fawn or two either bedded down in that area or on the way. The geese are gliding across the water parting the pollen laden water making small ripples as they traverse the lake. The sun is rising slowly illuminating the leaves that are unfolding slowly in the spring sunshine. A butterfly flits by. The hummingbird feeder waits expectantly for the visitors to begin to arrive for the day. Cardinals, sparrows, finches, tufted titmouse, and nuthatches fly from feeder to feeder, pecking at seed and enjoying the morning.

I am reminded of this favorite hymn.

For the Beauty of the Earth
The United Methodist Hymnal Number 092
Text: Folliot S. Pierpoint
Music: Conrad Kocher; Arr. by W.H. Monk
Tune: DIX, Meter: 77.77.77

1. For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

2. For the beauty of each hour
of the day and of the night,
hill and vale, and tree and flower,
sun and moon, and stars of light;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

3. For the joy of ear and eye,
for the heart and mind’s delight,
for the mystic harmony,
linking sense to sound and sight;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

4. For the joy of human love,
brother, sister, parent, child,
friends on earth and friends above,
for all gentle thoughts and mild;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

5. For thy church, that evermore
lifteth holy hands above,
offering up on every shore
her pure sacrifice of love;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

6. For thyself, best Gift Divine,
to the world so freely given,
for that great, great love of thine,
peace on earth, and joy in heaven:
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

Enjoy your day and know that God is there in all of that beauty. What do you love most about this time of year? I would love to read your thoughts in the comments . Each comment this month means a 50 cent donation to Camp Robin Rogers . To read more about Comments for a Cause please click here.
