Helping Others Through Comments for a Cause

Comments for a Cause.

January 2018.

How can it be ?  Comments for a Cause is going to kick the new year off in the right way but first before I do the big reveal let’s recap what December’s cause was.

I was thrilled to find out about Knox Blocks  Foundation   whose mission is to provide these amazing Owlet Smart Socks  which help give parents peace of mind by tracking the heart rate and oxygen level of a baby as it sleeps.  These socks are an amazing development in helping with some of the worries that new parents have and my friend Jessica and her husband were able to receive an Owlet Smart Sock thanks to a generous donation.  I am thrilled today to report that Chris and I will be making a donation of $130 to Knox Blocks Foundation to help with getting some smart socks into the hands of parents.

Thank you to all who have commented and contributed and as always please feel free to make a donation of your own if you feel so led.

When I worked at Epworth United Methodist Church in Concord, NC one of the places that we referred folks was Cooperative Christian Ministry.  So many of the members of Epworth were and continue to be devoted volunteers to this organization which provides to those in need in the Concord area.

The best way to share what is at the core of CCM is to read some of their statements that they share on their website:

Our Vision and Mission

Our Vision … is that every person in our community discover their purpose and experience the fulfillment that God intends for their lives.

Our Mission … is to provide immediate assistance to members of our community who are experiencing crisis in the areas of food, shelter, or finances while engaging them in a series of actions that will empower them to move beyond crisis.

Our Operating Principles

Our Operating Principles … guide decision making and provide criteria for participation in CCM’s programs.

  • Affirmation – acknowledges each individual as a person of value; created by God, in His image, with equal access to God’s grace as any one of us.
  • Accountability – requires that each individual accept personal responsibility for their circumstances (crisis) and expects each person to actively participate in the solution.

Our Core Values

Our Core Values are principles which guide our ongoing internal conduct and our relationship with the external community.

Prayer undergirds everything we do and is the most important investment our board, staff and volunteers make to the ministry.  Prayer is the most effective way to discover God’s plan for our ministry and the most effective means of employing His blessing on our efforts.

Excellence means understanding our role in the Mission and applying our talents, skills and spiritual gifts in a manner that will meet or exceed expectations.  It is our purpose to bring glory to God in all that we do and say in carrying out our ministry responsibilities.

Encouragement involves affirming the value of each volunteer, staff and supporter; acknowledging the talent, skills and spiritual gifts of each person involved in the ministry with us; and fostering an atmosphere of joy and celebration through God’s Word.

Community encompasses embracing accountability to each other and to our community, maintaining a presence throughout our community, recognizing changing needs and altering our approach to ministry in response to those needs.

This month I am happy to highlight Cooperative Christian Ministry as our Comments for a Cause.   For every comment made on any blog post during the month of January 2018 Chris and I will donate 50 cents.  I remember that CCM was always the first place we would refer people who came into the church who needed a little bit of help. There are so many options out there but CCM was consistently the one place that provided the best services for those who needed help.  Their staff is trained to know what to do and how to help their clients.

Thank you to all my friends who continue to support Cooperative Christian Ministry  by donations and through volunteering. Without you it would not exist.  Please consider checking out their website and other social media outlets by clicking below on the links which will take you directly to those sites.
