It’s Good to Be a Boomer

10 Comments/ 470/ 0

When Chris and I were driving home from Ohio this past week we had the chance to observe some interesting driving behaviors. We have all encountered it. But it seemed to be rampant on this trip. I blame the eclipse. Or something. But Chris, in all of his wittiness, assured me that the slow and erratic drivers in most of the cars were people of the “boomer generation”. You know –folks born between 1946 to 1964. Never mind that both of us fall at the end of that spectrum. So of course, when we passed said car he had to peer in to see who was driving. I did not make any statistical study but sadly he seemed to be correct in his assessment.

But it got me to thinking that there are a lot of things that are great when it comes to being a Boomer.

First of all we have lived a lot of years and have made a lot of mistakes already. We have been there and done that and hopefully learned from our mistakes. Lessons learned that we are all happy to pass along to others who are not as far along in years as we are.

There are discounts galore for those over a certain age. I happily take any discount I can get. A penny saved is a penny earned. (Am I showing my age? Good!)

One thing I have noticed is that a lot of folks who are in their rusty/golden years have lost a certain filter when they talk. They pretty much say whatever is on their mind and don’t really care what the reaction is. I am not quite there and doubt I ever will be if I am in my right mind but I have seen a lot of folks who just don’t give a hoot about reactions to their words.

We can re-wear clothes in our closet because the styles have come back in fashion again.

Listening to sisters Jean and Laura this week on their OK Boomer podcast let me in on another great thing about boomers. They are being sought after for being babysitters for the current generation of parents. No longer are teenagers adequate babysitters like boomers had for THEIR own children. Now older adults are the sought after babysitters and the pay is good. Our own grandson has an older grandma type that watches him when his real Fama and PopPops can’t be there so the demand is real, folks.

So there you go – a few positive things about being a Boomer. What do you think? Do you have positives that you can share as well? You know I need to add to my ever growing list so leave me a comment and Comment for a Cause for Pretty Place Chapel.
