Give me a witty murder mystery any day of the week and I am happy. Give me one that comes complete with recipes and I am even happier. Thanks to author Jeanne Cooney and Blue Cottage Agency I now have found yet another Minnesota writer to enjoy.
.
The book arrived before my stint at the annual AAUW Book Sale and I was antsy to get to it but I had other obligations that got my attention. Then I had to suffer through the after effects of the sale and it was quite a few days before I was actually feeling like even picking up a book to read. But once I started, I honestly could not put it down.
Sometimes I need a break from the reality of the everyday world and love to escape in the pages of a cozy mystery. This was the book that filled that need and I loved it. Author Jeanne Cooney has a great writing style and her quirky and lovable characters came into my home and joined me on the couch. Well, not really, but you get the idea. They were fun with a capital F. Something that was sorely needed at the time that I was reading the book.
So what is the book about? Check out this description as shared by the author:
Move over Stephanie Plum, Betty Crocker, and the residents of Lake Wobegon. Retired farmer Doris Day Anderson Connor and her quirky friends and relatives are solving crime in the Scandinavian-Lutheran farming community of Hallock, in the northwest corner of Minnesota. This book, the second installment in the It’s Murder series, has Doris and her sister, Grace Kelly Anderson, the owner of the local café, taking ninety-year-old Rose O’Brien ice fishing. The day ends, however, with nothing to show for their efforts except a dead body. With Rose distressed over the crime, Doris feels compelled to make inquiries in an effort to move the murder investigation along, much to the chagrin of the sheriff, an old boyfriend and a current puzzle. While in the café, at a funeral, and during a gender-reveal-party blizzard, she uncovers answers, but she also learns secrets and lies that lead her to wonder if she truly knows the residents of her hometown. After all, at least one of them is a killer.
Did I mention recipes? I mean who doesn’t love to get some new recipes and Minnesota recipes are the ones that bring all of the comfort and happy feelings deep down in the soul. How about Mexican Tater-Tot Hot Dish, Crock Pot Cube Steak, Egg Roll Hot Dish, Cowboy Stew,or Scotcheroo Bars to name a few? Mouth watering, right?
Need any. more encouragement? Just know that this is a fun book that will have you second guessing who dun it multiple times and may surprise you at the end. Plus did I mention recipes? Huge thanks to the author and Blue Cottage Agency for a free copy for my honest review. Now to find the. other books in this series and get all caught up.
