I love finding great local businesses to support and I recently found a perfect place to spend some time (and money) when I stopped in Shute Pecan Company in Dothan, Alabama located at 1475 Ross Clark Circle. I wanted to get a few things to use for gifts and since Dothan is famous for being the Peanut Capital of the World I decided that a stop at Shute’s would be just the thing. I was not disappointed. Denise was behind the counter the day I stopped in and I suspect she is there most days making sure that customers get exactly what they need. She graciously showed me around, allowed me to take pictures and even posed for a picture in front of their fun wall.I think the thing that makes a business great sometimes is just the feel of the store when you step inside. Shute Pecan Company has that feel–that nice homey, comfy welcoming atmosphere that encourages the visitor to shop and enjoy all that they have to offer. Shute Pecan Company is a pecan and peanut store established in 1929 in Dothan, Alabama. Their claim to fame is that three generations have been buying and selling the freshest and healthiest nuts around. Check out their Facebook Page here to see some pictures of the latest nuts being brought in. You certainly can’t get much fresher than this, can you? What do they carry? When it comes to nuts they have almonds, walnuts, cashews, filberts, Brazil nuts, pistachios, and fruit and nut mixes. You can purchase items in the store or you can even have items shipped directly through their online ordering system.
But wait, there’s more! While you are deciding what kind of nuts you want to buy there are plenty of other items to take a gander at. From antiques to jams and jellies, salsa, bbq sauce, chow chow, baking mixes, tea towels and novelties there is something for every shopper who comes through the door.
They also do tours at specific times so if you are interested in that make sure you check ahead of time by calling the store to see when those are being offered. What did I walk away with when I visited? Mainly peanuts and pecans to give to folks but my eye was on a couple of other items in the store. I bet you can figure out what that might have been. Don’t you just love a store where they have a sense of humor?
I am getting ready to get geared up to be in Dothan for the National Peanut Festival and can hardly contain my excitement. Who doesn’t want to see pigs racing after Oreo cookies? Check out the National Peanut Festival website here and don’t miss it if you are in the area during November 5-November 15.
