Keeping SAFE with Comments for a Cause

46 Comments/ 6201/ 2

Comments for a Cause for this past month was the Special Olympics of Transylvania County. This is a great organization that goes above and beyond to help keep some great activities going for those in the county who are privileged to be a part of the group.  There is always something going on and the folks that volunteer with this organization are dedicated .  This month was in honor of my brother in law, Carlton, who was an avid Special Olympic guy back in the day.  His recent move to an assisted living facility has him on my mind a lot recently and this was the perfect cause for April when he turned 47.

I am thrilled to report that we will be making a donation of $155 to the Special Olympics of Transylvania County.  Several of you have already donated to Special Olympics in your own area and thanks to your comments here the chapter in Transylvania County will be getting another donation.  SAFE

During May I decided to stay local again and donate to a well known charitable organization in our area. SAFE, Inc. of Transylvania County. Domestic violence is a real issue in our world today and a serious one that cannot be overlooked.  I have featured other domestic violence centers previously but I had to highlight this local one in Brevard.

Nancy Hein, Marketing & Outreach Specialist, graciously provided me with some information about SAFE, Inc. so my readers would understand what this organization does.

Mission Statement:  SAFE will lead our community in eliminating domestic violence and sexual violence through prevention, advocacy, education and healing.

Founded in 1985, SAFE, Inc. has been providing safety and services to victims of domestic and sexual violence in Transylvania County for over thirty years. SAFE offers emergency shelter, a 24-hour support line, help with protective orders, legal referrals, one-on-one and group counseling, life skills classes, violence prevention education in Transylvania County schools, and abuse prevention classes.

SAFE will provide a secure, confidential and respectful environment for all victims of sexual violence and their families.

SAFE’s nine-bedroom emergency shelter, Stacey’s House, offers a safe refuge for victims and their children. As a PAWS accredited shelter, we can even take in their pets. The shelter has 21 dedicated beds, and offers both crisis housing and a transitional program to help families stabilize and make healthier choices. We make sure our residents basic needs are met, and offer on-site services including healing yoga, massage, trauma-informed services for children, parent coaching and pet therapy to aid in the healing of the entire family unit. We help victims find and connect with community resources and programs to rebuild new lives free from violence.

SAFE can help. Trust yourself again. Call for support.

24-hour support line: 828-885-7233

SAFE also operates two resale stores, SAFE’s Attic and Attic Interiors, to help fund its operations.

Nancy also provided me with some photographs of their emergency shelter, Stacey’s House.Stacey's House dog kennel and playground

For each comment made on any post during the month of May (that means any post from the past 8 years that I have been writing a blog) Chris and I will make a donation of 50 cents to SAFE, Inc. of Transylvania County with a cap of $500.  I hope that you will stop by often and comment.
