Oh Helene…

8 Comments/ 575/ 0

Chris and I just got home from our extended vacation and our trip home from Chincoteaque, Virginia was longer than anticipated but we made it home. Thanks to torrential rain about 2 hours from home, our trip was slower than hoped and of course we still had to stop for a few groceries after being gone for almost two weeks. There was no way I was going back out after we got home.

So, here we are, awaiting all of the expected rain thanks to Helene. But of course, because that is not enough, there is another storm ahead of that that is hitting in the mountains. Now if you have been to our home you know we live on a lake and they are already lowering the lake to account for the rainfall. We will not flood where we are but other parts of our area that are not as high of elevation as us will most definitely flood. When we drove home there was already a lot of areas where water was pooling on the road and it is going to get worse before it gets better.

.

Yes, you read that correctly. Brevard will have 10 – 15 inches of rain before this is all over. In session school is cancelled for the next couple of days and everything else seems to be following in the same direction. I am happy to hunker down and enjoy being home and unpacking and doing all the things that need to be done. The cats are happy we are home and here’s hoping the electricity stays on and that trees stay upright. I probably will take a blog break on Friday but see you back here on Monday. Have a safe weekend.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

All the Light We Cannot See

This is quite a book! I had it recommended to me by several people and while I thought it might be a little dark and depressing it made me have a better understanding of what life in this time period was like. The strength of the huma...

An Abundance of Katherines

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
