Old Trusty

12 Comments/ 2692/ 0

Did you ever have a favorite thing that you just could not find a replacement for once it was well past its usefulness???  Take a look at that picture above!  What do you think when you look at it?  Nasty???  Disgusting?  Should have been tossed years ago?  Perhaps you are correct but it was the perfect round brush!   I have had it for probably 12 years–no joke.  I honestly do not remember a time when I have not had it.  It has traveled with me.  It has gone to far away countries like Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Italy, France and even took a few trips north to Canada.   And it ALWAYS goes with me to Ohio, North Carolina and Texas when I go to see family.  It has gone places I have not gone when my luggage has gotten repeatedly “delayed”.

I have looked high and low for a replacement knowing that the day is coming when Old Trusty will no longer be able to do its job adequately.   I have looked in big box stores.  I have looked in grocery stores.  I have looked in dollar stores.  I have even looked in beauty supply stores with no luck.  Oh I have tried to replace Old Trusty.  I really have!  But no one seems to be just right.  Each time I have lost my luggage I have tried to make do with another relative of Old Trusty but they never quite live up to expectations.

These are just a few relatives of Old Trusty.  While they are functional and sturdy and new they did not do the job.   Maybe I am too picky.  Maybe my hair is too sensitive.  I don’t know.  I just know that Old Trusty was losing it for me and I was very very afraid of the results when Old Trusty finally lost all of his nubs and bristles and rubber grip.

This story has a happy ending.  I will just go ahead and tell you that since I know you are all on the edge of your seat worried about me and my search for a new brush.  The other day whilst I was waiting for a prescription in Walgreens I ventured into the hair accessories area and guess what!!! They had the exact brush that I needed!  I shrieked with delight!!!!  I snatched up one off the rack and debated getting two.   I didn’t want to appear piggish.  What if there was someone else out there who was in the same dilemma as me?  What if their quest to find a replacement for their Old Trusty was going on longer than mine???  I chose my color and added it to my basket and the rest of the day was heaven! am so over the moon about my new brush!  It doesn’t take much to make this gal happy! So please, join me in welcoming the newest member of the Chiles family—New Trusty!!!!

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

An Abundance of Katherines

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
