Over Yonder by Sean Dietrich

6 Comments/ 332/ 0

First of all, huge thank you to my BFF Ann for introducing me to Sean Dietrich’s writing years ago. He is one of those people who has enriched my life in a multitude of ways over the years and I am so thrilled that he is still writing quality material. If you know him by Sean of the South, you might know that he writes a piece every day that is shared on social media. That piece gets shared and shared some more. His reach since I first started following him has increased dramatically and that just makes my heart happy.

So when I was able to read and review his new book early I was thrilled. The good news is it is now available so you can get your own copy to read and enjoy either from your library or buy a copy of your own.

.

So what did I think? I loved it.

What happens when you put an ex-con defrocked priest, a salty ex wife (or two) and a newly found previously unknown pregnant 17 year old daughter and a father together? You get the wonderful story, Over Yonder, written by none other than Sean of the South. Sean Dietrich’s trademark humor, command of the English language and extensive knowledge of little known facts shines through in his latest novel.

True to his usual writing style, Mr. Dietrich shares complex and very human characters who invite you to come on their journey with them. By the end of the book the reader is cheering Caroline on—- hoping and praying that for once in her life she gets a break and that all the bad things are in her rear view mirror. Watching her navigate the complexities of relationships, including the one with her father, was pretty fabulous.

Dietrich’s wit and humor shine through and I often stopped to highlight a phrase or a wisdom as well as look up a few new to me words. How does he write so fully from the heart with lovely humans in all his books? I don’t know but I certainly do not want him to stop. I’ve been bitten by the Sean of the South bug and can’t wait for the next novel.

.

I have had the pleasure of seeing Sean (yes, we are on a first name basis) three times and each time I have loved hearing his words, his songs and seeing his sweet wife Jamie. The very first time I met him was at a book signing event in Tennessee when Ann and I traveled to see him. Of course I wrote about it here.

So do yourself a favor and check out his writing and shows. He is really quite a performer and his shows are always fun events filled with laughter and fun. The payoff at the end is getting your neck hugged by him. Priceless.
