The condo we stayed at last week at Kure Beach, North Carolina was called Shore Am Happy. We arrived during a torrential downpour and massive storm and to be honest I renamed the place Shore Am Happy I Am Still Standing. Whew. The following picture I took when we got there and it really does not show the storm but trust me – it was blowing and raining like crazy. Our unit was the second story of a three story unit.
Our set of condos was the last one on this section of the beach and after looking up some history (thanks, Chris) we discovered that the beach has been battered and declining for 40 years. It is an area that is kind of a No Man’s Land and because of some choices that have been made over the years, the beach is declining. This shot from the outside of the condos kind of tells the story. It looks a little rough on the outside but happily the inside was great.
Those huge sandbags surrounded all of the first floor units in this development in an attempt to keep the water away. The night we arrived I was doubtful. The condo actually moved with the crashing waves and winds and we were a little bit nervous. I was grateful we were not on the first floor.
I am here to say that we made it through the storm and even though the week was full of really gloomy and cloudy days, it was a good trip and a good way to rest up. My favorite place was the balcony on the swing where I spent hours reading and watching the surf which was literally right there. No need to go to the beach because it came to me.

There were sunrises and sunsets although none were spectacular this trip.

There were beach walks and seashell searching.

It really was a great trip but as always, coming home is always pretty sweet. Shore Am Happy I Am Home. The cats agree.
