Take Another Deep Breath

7 Comments/ 346/ 0

If anyone noticed I was away from the blog a bit last week. I just could not settle down to write posts when our area continued to be in chaos due to Hurricane Helene. Then Milton came and did so much more damage in Florida. It is so difficult to feel so small in the big picture. I want to do it all. I want to “fix” things. I want to be in the trenches helping out however I can but sometimes I have to just pull back and realize that it is not all up to me.

I have written before about how much Western North Carolina has pulled together after the storm to push the recovery forward and that continues. The help that is coming in is truly unbelievable and many of the places that are collecting items for those affected have been overrun with donations and have had to push pause on donations. While that is understandable it is something that donators don’t always understand. If you have been one who has spent time, energy and money on doing a collection it is difficult to hear “we just can’t take that right now”. I get it .

I saw this quick video about two women who have tried to get a dashboard put together that will help everyone out with this dilemma. They have created a valuable resource that folks can look at to see just what exactly is needed as needs change. Take a quick look at this news video that explains and introduces these two amazing women.

SupportingWNC is a great resource for those who want to help and those who are already helping. Locally many businesses are still working to come back from the storm and are offering what they can. It is difficult as this is leaf peeping season and our local economy depends on those who visit and support our local businesses. With the forests being closed and the Blue Ridge Parkway shut down it is really going to hurt. A local business shared this graphic on Instagram and I thought it was a great way to share a few of the positive things.

While we recovery from a pretty horrific weather event we continue to seek the support and prayers of all. We will come out of this and shine on the other side of it –it might take a little bit of time but we are resilient. It’s Just Life is coming back this week – stay tuned.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
