The Recipe Box

9 Comments/ 406/ 0

Take a look at that feature picture at the top of the blog today and you will see recipe cards that span the years and the locations of my life. I was just musing to Chris the other day that we have had such great experiences and places to live over the years and have truly had the most wonderful life together. Not everyone gets the chance to move and live in different places in their lifetime and we have had the ability to call many places home. My recipe box reflects that.

There are the recipes from the friends we made early on in our marriage when Chris was in the Navy and we lived in Orlando, Florida. Those recipes and those friendships remain very strong and as I look at the number of handwritten recipe cards from those friends it makes me smile because we are still in contact with many of them.

There are family written recipes that are from both my family and Chris’ family which reflect on wonderful times together when a certain dish was shared that was just that good that I asked for the recipe.

There are recipes from our days in Greenville, Ohio where our young family found friends in the neighborhood and through Chris’ work at Corning Glass and yes – most of those are still friends today.

There are many more recipe cards in my box from others, too numerous to pull out, that remind me of times with friends and how important food is as a reminder of those friendships. When I make a dish from a friend I remember that person and the feelings I had when I spent time with them. When it all boils down to it that is what matters most to me. Time with family and friends just sharing together and quite often those times are where food is what brings us together.

Now it is easy to just go online to get a recipe and I do that often but time and time again I am drawn back to my massive recipe box and fondly remember those friends, that family, those moments shared. What about you? Do you have a recipe box that takes you back in time? I would love to hear about it so leave me a comment and Comment for a Cause for Sharing House Back to School.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

An Abundance of Katherines

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
