To Cone or Not to Cone

14 Comments/ 376/ 1

Our sweet kitten Maksim aka Pootie Cat had a little male related surgery on Monday. It was his 6 month birthday and it was time. Actually past time since his own father fathered him at just 5 1/2 months of age. Wowser, right? Maksim was none too happy to wake up Monday morning to a still empty food dish and no treats.

On the way to the vet.

A trip down the mountain and I dropped him off for his “procedure”. Thankfully it is not as big of a deal for males as it is for females. I got the call later that morning that he had done “swimmingly” and could be picked up at 4.

When I picked him up everyone had loved on him, given him snuggles and kisses. They love him there. He was still a little loopy from the anesthesia but didn’t make a peep going back home. He came out of his carrier and sniffed everywhere.

Still a little loopy but home.

The directions were to keep him quiet and to have him not lick the incision site. Yea, right. He is a cat. And further more he is a kitten. Pretty difficult to keep him quiet but I said I would try. They gave me the proverbial cone of shame in case he licked the area too much.

My instructions were to check the incision area and make sure it was not swollen or red. On this cat there is so much fur it is really difficult to see and he is not very compliant at this point so I am keeping an eye on him and not making him wear the cone of shame. So far so good.

We have been doing a lot of couch time together which is wonderful.

It is a little bit ridiculous how much I dote on this kitten. But he has brought us so much happiness in such a short time that can’t be measured. Now that he is just a sports model I am hoping he and Holly get along even better — they have their moments still at times. Holly’s tail is still a very attractive toy in his eyes.
