It seemed like it was about time to share my top five reads so far this year. While this list is not my all time top five books (that’s quite a different list), this is just from the 104 books that I have read or listened to this year. So here we go –in no particular order.
.
A surprisingly interesting book to me was The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe. A memoir which highlights a “book club” of sorts between a son and a dying mother written with a lot of love and emotion. I found myself looking up books as a result of reading this book and even purchasing a copy of Daily Strength for Daily Needs by Mary Tileston because it was a prominent book in their lives.
.
I am a huge Anna Quindlen fan and One True Thing did not disappoint. Another book highlighting a relationship between a mother and daughter . Brilliantly crafted with characters who are flawed and realistic, loved and lovable. This is one to savor and not rush through.

I can’t lie –this beautiful book. The Poppy Fields, drew me in with its colorful pages and lovely cover and because I also loved a previous book by this author: The Measure. Again, family relationships are the center of this novel and this time it is a relationship between sisters. What an interesting topic and way to question quality of life and how we view it? This book left me thinking long after I finished.

This one was recommended by a friend and had escaped my radar. So glad it was recommended to me. A wonderful story about a stolen violin and the aspirations of a gifted musician. It doesn’t sound like a new idea to write about but I thoroughly loved how the author made this story real and jump off the pages. Definitely a great read.
.
The Sideways Life of Denny Voss was a lovely book to read –poor Denny was always of the wrong side of things unexpectedly and just had chaos surrounding him continually. His job, cleaning up roadkill, kind of gives you a hint into wha this life was like. Beautifully written I found myself rooting for Denny and cheering him on as his troubles squirm around him.
So those along with the following two that I left off because I have already reviewed them here on the blog, top my list so far this year.
