Wildflower Hike in Holmes Educational State Forest

5 Comments/ 143/ 0

The weekend was a perfect weekend to be outside and for once the weather cooperated with our planned hike in Holmes Educational State Forest. We had signed up for a hike there with our friend Elaine weeks ago and were thrilled that the day was such a perfect day for a hike.

This is one of our favorite places to go in the area because it is never very crowded and it is the home of the Talking Trees. Chris and I have done the Talking Tree trail several times and took Theo one time although he was not as impressed with the Talking Trees as we were. Right now the trail is undergoing a facelift and they are transitioning the old talking tree technology to new crank style ones so it was not all complete but it will be and hopefully by the time Theo comes this summer so we can take him again.

Our guide led our group of 8 on a great tour which included a lovely stroll on the Talking Tree Trail and we saw over 20 different wildflower and ephemerals. I tried to keep track of what was what and I did okay but doubt I will be able to always identify them. I wanted to share a few of my favorites today.

Foam Flower

.

Sweet Shrub / Carolina Allspice

.

Star Chickweed

.

White Trillium

.

Mayapple
Wild Violet

.

Yellow Mandarin

.

So which one of these is your favorite? I would love to hear if you have a favorite wildflower in your area. Every place offers different ones and it is so neat to see other ones that I have never seen. Have a lovely spring day!
