A Bag of Yo-Yos

12 Comments/ 656/ 0

I was finally working on cleaning up my office/craft room the other day and ran across a bag of yo-yos. Not the toy kind of yo-yos but the fabric kind. I somehow ended up with a package that my mom was working on and boy oh boy –did it remind me of all the things.

Do you remember all the things that these cute little things were used for? Quilts, pillows, clothing, crafty items like Christmas trees , garlands, the list goes on and on.

So the bag includes some that are already sewn into little gathered circles and some that are perfectly cut circles just waiting to be made. Now I remember my. mom sitting in her chair watching tv and making these. I think she did pillows out of them and maybe some other crafty things .

What I noticed as I took them out of the bag was the precision with which she cut the circles. They were perfect. Not a surprise to see that as she was very precise when it came to her doing her sewing and her crafts. She taught me to sew and I remember some tense moments when she told me to tear a seam out or redo something because it was not up to her standards. But what a great way to learn how to do things the correct way, right?

The other thing I noticed was the fabrics which were so familiar. That smiley face fabric was one of my favorite dresses she made me complete with a little smock that went over it. I can’t believe that fabric is still around probably 55 years later. The red stripe material? My mom made toilet bags for all of us for when we went camping and that was the fabric that I remember her using. Funny how just seeing these fabrics made me smile and feel all warm inside.

So if you remember these little cuties raise your hand or leave me a comment and remember all comments this month go to support our Comments for a Cause – Black Mountain Home for Children, Youth and Adults. If you want to know more about this cute little craft check out the video below.
