I re-found this quote I had posted several years ago on my computer the other day and it made me smile just like it did the first time I discovered it. Why can’t I ever articulate my thoughts quite as effectively as Gordon B. Hinckley did in this quote? Regardless, I am certainly glad he said this and shared it someplace so I could find it.
It is so true and most of you out there reading this will agree to the truth behind being in service to others. I am happy to say that this is the way of my life and the way of the lives of many of you whom I call friends. Doing for others not only makes sense, it is so often the one who serves that reaps the benefits. We don’t “do” for the benefits or for the acknowledgment. Yes, it does feel good when someone thanks us for our service but it is not why we do it. Sometimes the best service is the thing that is done anonymously with no way of reward.
I have been on a lot of committees and in a lot of groups over the years and there are some that stand out to me as the perfect place to share my gifts and talents. I have also been on committees that I felt were not a good fit for me. Sometimes when folks find out you like to volunteer you get a lot of options. Right now it appears that I have options and I am trying to figure out where I am best suited to volunteer.
So today – my advice for you if you are overwhelmed with worry or weariness – find someone to help. Find a place to focus your attention and I guarantee you will come away feeling better about everything that had you overwhelmed .
