Art and hurricanes don’t really sound like they would go together but in this case they do. Chris and I went to check out the exhibits at our local Transylvania County Arts Council this past weekend and were amazed, as usual, at some of the art. Our little arts council always has some amazing artists featured and this time they had put a call out for art relating to our recent Hurricane Helene. The featured artist was Kira Bursky who had created 31 different pieces, one a day during the month of October 2024, that were dedicated to the hurricane in some way. While it was difficult to take pictures of the exhibit due to reflections on the glass I managed a couple but they are definitely not great.

I was able to find some pictures on the Arts Council Facebook page here that will give you more of an ideal what the exhibit was like. The great thing is that 20% of sales of these pieces will go to hurricane relief. What a gift.

Also this fabulous collage taken from the artist Kira Bursky’s Facebook page as well that introduces her exhibit at the Arts Council.

It was a really engaging exhibit and I was so impressed with the artist. Visit her website here to see her work and purchase it as well.
While we were there we looked at all of the other artwork and enjoyed seeing the work of several of our artist friends that live in Connestee Falls.
First up, a painting by good friend and neighbor Elaine Omann featuring a surviving tree that made it through the hurricane when many others surrounding it had fallen. It holds a special place in my heart because I know this tree.

This beautiful bird, though not hurricane related, was crafted by friend and fellow book club member Debra Smale. It is of Dolly Parton and is a multi media offering. Debra has an entire line of birds honoring women and this one is one of my favorite ones that she has made.

We are so lucky to have the Transylvania County Arts Council in our community and it is amazing to see the talent that abounds just within our county. Do you have an arts council where you live? I would highly recommend checking it out if you do and seeing what wonderful art they are sharing.
