Asking for a Drink

2 Comments/ 86/ 1

John 4:7-31 . A Samaritan woman came to draw some water, and Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink of water.”

One of the things I am doing this Lent is reading the prayer cards that our church provided. They have some interesting questions and then the flip side offers a prayer that can be prayed after reflection. Some of them have been challenging.

The above verse speaks to a time when Jesus asked a Samaritan woman for a drink of water. That in and of itself was out of the realm of thought because Jesus as a Jew would never ask a Samaritan woman for a glass of water as they would never share dishes. The card goes on to ask “When was the last time you asked for help?”

That’s a hard one. I don’t. I just really don’t ask others for help. I have always prided myself in my ability to just do what needs to be done at times. When the kids were younger and Chris traveled a lot I realized that if I was going to get anything done I just had to get on with it and do it myself. I am the one that sees a need and just takes care of it instead of waiting on someone else to do it. It’s just the way I am.

But if I am honest – there are definitely times I need to ask for help. This card reminded me of that. I don’t have to do it all myself, do I? This week I did ask someone to take care of something for me. Yes, I could have done it myself but it was a simple thing that I could easily pass on to someone else and I did. It felt good. Actually, it felt great. So maybe God isn’t done with me yet, right? I am still learning that it’s okay to ask for help and not do it all alone. How about you? Is it easy for you to ask for help when you need it ? Tell me all about it in the comments and Comment for a Cause for National Kidney Foundation.
