Book Club Anyone?

2 Comments/ 1641/ 0

I admit it—I am a bookaholic!!!!  I absolutely love books and reading and the whole process of reading a good book.   I think I inherited this from both my mother and my father—they both encouraged me to always read and it was my “escape” a lot of times.   My favorite memories of living in North Fairfield, Ohio were my almost daily visits to the little library there.  I loved the smell of the new books when they came in and the many stories that I could disappear into.

My life now is definitely different that it used to be but part of what I am doing is a lot of reading.  I think I am trying to catch up on all those years when I was “too busy” to read and now that I have time to do it I do!!!   I have books in baskets, books on bookshelves, books on tables and books on my Kindle that are begging me to read them.  I have a variety, too.  While I love all the popular authors like Janet Evanovich, Carl, Hiasson, Sue Grafton, James Patterson, Stieg Larson, Bill Bryson, Jennifer Weiner I also have a lot of books by authors less known.   I do not always read books that are deep and informational—-I like to escape and there is a time and place for everything so those do get read but not as frequently as the fictional escape book.

I found an article in the Charlotte Observer today about book clubs and how popular they are.  I would LOVE to be in a book club —I have never done that and would love to be a part of one.   I need to figure out where I can plug into one or who I would be able to invite if I started one.  The bottom line, according to this article, was that it had to include food!  Seems like that is the recipe for a successful book club.   Hmmmmm…….I could do that!

I also found a great website (isn’t the internet amazing?) called www.LitLovers.com where you can find all kinds of great info for book clubs and book lovers. It is a great resource and one that I will be going back to time and time again if only for suggestions of great books to read. I was thrilled to find it! It doesn’t take much. So…if any of you guys out there are readers and in a book club or have been in a book club I would love to hear from you! What works, what doesn’t, what type of books do you read, etc.

And if you wondered about the picture at the top of the post today—-part of my Rollo Walter Brown collection—-my great uncle—I have been trying to get a complete collection and thanks to many online sites like Abebooks I have been able to find all of them.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
