Booking Forward on Comments for a Cause

23 Comments/ 538/ 1

Comments for a Cause time is here once again.

September 1st is upon us and I can not believe that we are this far into 2018.  I guess that is a sign of getting older when the days just simply fly by.

This past month our Comments for a Cause recipient was Bread of Life which is based out of Brevard, NC.  Bread of Life is a wonderful place that serves our community with free meals.  Their mission: The mission of the Bread of Life Free Community Kitchen is to provide nutritious meals in a safe and secure environment and to share our food with those in need in Transylvania County.

To read more about this organization click here to go to the original post.

I am thrilled to report that Chris and I will be making a donation of $175  to Bread of Life   thanks to all of the comments left on my blog this past month.  It is you that make the difference and your willingness to click here, read and take the time to comment makes a huge difference.

What makes my heart happy?  Books and more books.

Books for Africa is a fabulous charity that is making a huge difference in the book famine in Africa.  We often think about famine as being food only but in reality a famine can be anything that someone or something is deprived of.  In Africa it is books.

The mission of Books for Africa is simple.

We collect, sort, ship, and distribute books to students of all ages in Africa. Our goal: to end the book famine in Africa.

Books For Africa remains the largest shipper of donated text and library books to the African continent, shipping over 41 million books to all 54 countries on the African continent since 1988.  In fiscal year 2018 alone, Books For Africa shipped 2.3 million books, and 123 computers and e-readers containing 283,000 digital books, to 29 African countries. More than $2.2 million was raised last year to ship these books to the students of Africa.

One of the places I like to check for worthy charities is Charity Navigator.

They are a great resource for finding out the particulars about how different charities operate and how much of the money raised actually goes to the purpose it is being raised for.  Books For Africa has the honor of receiving the highest rating from Charity Navigator for 7 years.

What do books mean?

Books mean life.

A better way of life.

Books mean education.

Books For Africa is a simple idea, but its impact is transformative. For us, literacy is quite simply the bridge from misery to hope.

— Kofi Annan, former U.N. Secretary-General

How can “we” help?  The three major things listed on the Books for Africa website are:

Donate funds.

Donate books.

Receive books.

So my goal is to educate my readers a little bit more and offer you the chance to donate however you can.  If it means just leaving comments on my blog posts in September that is the perfect way to help.  Each comment made on any blog post means a 50 cent donation at the end of the month (with a cap donation of $500).  It does not even have to be a post from this month.  It can be on any post from the past.  It’s easy for me to keep track of comments so I am happy to count any made at any time.

You can make a difference and I know that books can make a huge difference.  Please comment often and follow Books for Africa on their social media channels listed below.  See you back here on Tuesday for a new Teapot Tuesday.

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
