Canstruction Houston Style

30 Comments/ 947/ 1

If you have followed me for any length of time you know that I love when folks give back.  I love when companies and organizations give above and beyond .

This past week Chris and I were in Houston for a company board meeting.  One of the things that I love about the foundation he works for is their philanthropy.   This morning I completed the paperwork to submit for their matching funds to several of my Comments for a Cause recipients from 2017.  It makes me happy when they match our donation and double the contribution to a worthy cause.

We stayed at Hotel Sorella in City Centre and it was a wonderful place to stay.  Great accommodations, lovely breakfast, beautiful restaurants and bars and it had a really nice vibe.  When I walked into the ground floor I was thrilled to see that City Centre was the location for Canstruction Houston 2017.

Last year when we visited Micah and Wendy in NYC we happened upon another Canstruction event and I blogged about it here. I was excited to see what Houston had to offer.

I tried to follow the map but honestly I did not get the hang of it.  I did manage to see several of the exhibits and snapped a few pictures.

I couldn’t really see what this said until I stood back aways from it. Once I did, I loved it.

This one gives a shout out to JJ Watt whose foundation worked post Hurricane Harvey to help those in need.

A rocket ship ?  Perfect way to blast away at hunger.

This cat was probably my favorite.  It was a cute take on a cat complete with a tuna body and chocolate coins for eyes.

My taco pictures didn’t turn out too well –the angle was just difficult to get but you get the idea.

Clowns were the theme of the year it seems and this one made me laugh a little with the orange fluffy hair.  Perfect clown hair.

All of the canned goods will be donated to the Houston Food Bank post “de-canstruction” and there are receptacles for donation all over the City Centre.  These cute can lid decals could be found on the pavement where the sculptures were located.  Most of the stores I visited also had displays and collection points.

Does your city do anything creative like this?  Making donating to worthy places fun is a great idea and teams working together to create fun displays has to be a great team building event.   Let me know if your town or city does anything similar to this in the comments section and remember that each comment this month helps to support Free Rein.  You can read more about that here.
