Caring for Our Neighbors

5 Comments/ 462/ 0

If you know me you know that there are a few things that I am passionate about.

Cats.

Books.

Teapots.

Sharing House.

Not necessarily in that order. Today I am most excited about Sharing House (official name Transylvania Christian Ministry). I have had the pleasure of volunteering for Sharing House in a variety of ways over the years and love what they do for our neighbors in our county.

Sharing House connects with residents of Transylvania County to provide crisis assistance and programs that cultivate lasting solutions to hunger and poverty. Sharing House offers food and fresh produce, gently-used clothes, rent and utility assistance, household goods, camping equipment, hot showers, a safe place to share stories of struggle, and a refuge of social interaction and empowerment. It is a safe haven for many people and for the hundreds of volunteers who make Sharing House a priority it is a way to live our their generosity and their care for others.

Now it is time for Sharing House to grow and it is a very exciting time for everyone.

Sharing House is in the process of acquiring a one acre parcel of land across from the current building and parking lot and will be doing an official Blessing of the Land on Monday, November 13, 2023 beginning at 2 pm. This will be a chance for neighbors, volunteers, friends and the community to come together to celebrate the purchase, bless the land and join together in celebrating a huge step forward for this ministry. If you live locally, we would love to have you attend and ask that if possible you let us know so that we can ensure we are ready for everyone. To register just click on this link here and fill out the RSVP form.

Please join us, if you can, as we celebrate what is to come for our neighbors and join us as we offer a blessing for the land that is sure to bless many others over the years.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

All the Light We Cannot See

This is quite a book! I had it recommended to me by several people and while I thought it might be a little dark and depressing it made me have a better understanding of what life in this time period was like. The strength of the huma...

An Abundance of Katherines

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
