Comments for a Cause Reaches New Heights

6 Comments/ 1763/ 0

Every. Single. Month.

I ask “How did we get here?” How on earth can it be May already? The month of April flew by for me, did it for you? If you are new to this blog, you may not know that the first of the month is kind of a big deal. It’s the day I reveal how much we raised for Comments for a Cause and share the new charity that is going to be highlighted during the new month. So buckle up and let’s go.

.

This past month I highlighted Pretty Place which is located at Camp Greenville, Chris and I live very close to this beautiful place and the staff at the YMCA camp there graciously allow visitors to come visit when there are not events scheduled. The place is getting VERY popular and we haven’t been for awhile but I love the accessibility to a place that is so beautiful and spiritual.

To allow visitors to come and enjoy the beauty of the chapel is a pretty big undertaking and improvements have been made and continue to be made so it made sense to make a little donation to this place that has become a tourist attraction in our own back yard. Chris and I are thrilled to announce that because of your comments on the blog during the month we will be making a donation of $87 to Pretty Place.

.

Drum roll, please! Chris and I recently got to take a tour of PARI ( Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute) It was pretty spectacular and I will share more later this week about our trip there over the weekend but suffice it to say, this is another gem in our backyard.

The thing that excited me was the idea that we can help invest in a young scientist’s future by donating to a special fund that they have created.

PARI’s goal is to provide inspiration and make space sciences more accessible to the next generation. From one-time opportunities to ongoing partnerships, your involvement can help provide a path for future scientists to discover a love of space exploration. 100% of your investment in PARI supports the education of our future scientists. (from the PARI Website)

The opportunities at PARI are varied and include special community days like we were able to be a part of to summer camps to specialized tours for small groups and school groups, this is a place to find out more about science and reach for the literal stars. We loved being a part of the special community day and found ourselves amazed at all that there was to see.

So this month, as you look up at the stars and maybe think about the big universe that we live in, maybe you will stop and think about PARI and how it is making a difference in the lives of many folks including young people. Please come to the blog often and read and comment. For each comment made on any blog post during the month we will make a 50 cent donation to PARI for their efforts to promote science in a variety of ways. Thanks to all for your continued support and make sure to come back later this week to read about our trip.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
