June 1st — I know I say this every single month but how on earth is it already the beginning of yet another. month? It really is true that as you age the time goes quicker and quicker. Ah – time is a thief at times but I am trying to embrace every day and make a small difference somehow.

This past month our Comments for a Cause recipient was Transylvania Schools Educational Foundation. I highlighted it this past month and know that they do some really great work – providing all kinds of teacher and classroom support, student support and innovative and creative learning opportunities. Anytime you invest in a child you are making a difference and this foundation is doing just that. Thanks to all of you who are so diligent about making comments here, Chris and I will make a small donation to this foundation to help with their efforts. Thank you so much!
June around our house means it is time to be fully immersed in the American Association of University Women Annual Book Sale . This year we will be in a new space and it will be a whole new sale with new logistics and challenges. But — this is one group of really smart women and we will make it the best it has ever been, I can guarantee that.
When thinking about who to support this month, focusing on this incredible group just made perfect sense. The mission of AAUW is to advance gender equity through education, advocacy, and research—and here at our Brevard Chapter, our major focus is raising funds for local scholarships.
This year, I am thrilled to report that we are funding an amazing lineup of opportunities right here in our county:
- Scholarships for students at Brevard College and Blue Ridge Community College.
- Sending two college women to a national leadership conference.
- Funding two brand-new scholarships for high school women.
- Sending three elementary school girls to a week-long camp at Green River Preserve.
- Sending five rising seventh-graders to Campus Adventures, a week-long day camp at Brevard College.
All of our fundraising efforts center around selling books on eBay and at our upcoming Annual Book Sale (June 6–10, 2026).
I truly believe that experiences and opportunities like these are the building blocks for our future. Investing in these girls and women is so important, and I believe deeply in this mission.
