Date Night Bingo: How I Convinced My Husband to Visit the Bookstore (Again)

Leave a Comment/ 13/ 0

Don’t get me wrong—I love flowers and chocolates as much as the next person. But over the last few years, Chris and I have realized that a low-key celebration suits us best. After all, he’s my sweetheart every single day; we don’t need one specific date to prove it.

This year, our celebration was a perfect trio: brunch, a movie, and a trip to Highland Books, our favorite local indie shop. Leslie and her crew of booksellers make every event there a blast. We attended their Valentine’s special last year, and I managed to “bribe” Chris into a return trip this year with the promise of Kilwin’s ice cream afterward. Even after a long day, he couldn’t say no to that!

.

We opted for the “Date Night Bingo” challenge, splitting the list to find nine books total. The store was buzzing with fellow book-lovers, so we tried to be efficient (mostly because that ice cream was calling Chris’s name).

Can you guess which of us chose which category?

Chris’s prize was a free ARC (Advance Reader Copy), and mine was a 20% discount. I’ve been eyeing the book on the left for a while now. I have a few review copies to get through first, but I’m already itching to dive in. Judging by the smiles all around, it was a fantastic event—one we’ll definitely keep supporting.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
