Dreams DO Come True

13 Comments/ 190/ 0

Sometimes dreams do come true and what a wonderful thing it is. For over three years we have been lobbying for a better space for our library in our Connestee Falls community. Letters were written. Emails sent. Requests made at board meetings. The list goes on. I am sure administration was tired of hearing about the library but they, along with the help of a great facilities committee came to the same conclusion that many of us had. A new space was needed for our little hallway library and once our new Wellness and Activities facility was opened they conceded that the best use of the old Wellness center space was a new library.

.

I am thrilled to be part of the team that worked for this new space and yes – it was a team. The library is really used and one of my “jobs” is to write an annual report to the POA Board to share the circulation numbers for the year. It is a surprising amount of books, puzzles, DVDs and more that get borrowed and the new space will allow us to have even more available to our community.

When we sat down to talk about what we envisioned we stated that we wanted a nice seating area overlooking the beautiful golf course, tons of shelving, an expanded area for children, a community puzzle table and a place for our supplies that was not out in the open. Guess what? We got it all and more.

Our library is run by around 30 volunteers who shelve items and keep it looking spiffy. The newer space means more books, more work but a much better space. We now have almost double the shelving space, expanded seating and room to move around. Finally we can have more than 5 people in the library at a time.

Monday is our official ribbon cutting and I am so excited. Our library is completely supplied by donations and we have been able to increase our inventory of all kinds of books and already the library space has become a gathering place. My heart is happy. A long time project has reached fruition thanks to the efforts of many. I am so grateful.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
