Drum Roll Please!!!!! From Kids to Burritos!

46 Comments/ 4160/ 0

Comments for a Cause rocks!!! I have been so excited to promote various “causes” over the past few months by promising to donate 50 cents for each legitimate comment on my blog during the month to whatever the charity of the month is.  This month I designated UNICEF to be the recipient and I am happy to report that I got a total of 214 comments during October so I will be sending $107 to UNICEF to help further their aid to children around the world.

Not too long ago I read an article in my Taste of Home magazine.  If you want to read it in the entirety click on this link to view the article.  It talked about a group in Charlotte, NC that has taken on a pretty neat little ministry of making burritos and delivering them to homeless folks around the community via bikes!   Hence Burrito Bikers was born. They were also featured in The Charlotte Observer in an article here.  It pulled at my heart.   Real people taking real problems and trying to help out one burrito at a time. Are they going to change the world?  Maybe not but they are definitely doing something that is worthwhile.  Not only do they deliver a protein packed burrito—they are offering friendship and acceptance to those on the fringe who often get ignored.

So I had to find out more and I did.  Tommy Holderness and I have been emailing back and forth.  I told him about my Comments for a Cause.  He agreed to allow me to feature his group as my November cause.   Tommy told me that they usually don’t need funds for the actual ingredients—usually their volunteers are able to fully fund that but they sometimes can use funds for other things like gloves and mittens and hats and sometimes even gourmet coffee.   Sounds perfect to me!   I promised him that whatever I contributed could be used for whatever the group wanted to use it for—no expectations and no strings attached.   I am sure it will be used well.

November is the time we often think about family and feasting!  Burritos seemed appropriate.   Please comment and comment often.  It all counts!  And please view the video—it is a great way to see what this fabulous group of people do every week.  Kudos to them!!!!  (Teapot Tuesday to return next week!  It was pre-empted by the Comments for a Cause!)
