I have never understood why our Remembrance Day is different than your Memorial Day. They are both essentially, as far as I know, for the same purpose. So I looked it up. Our Remembrance day was originally called Armistice day, and it was celebrated in the 11th month on the 11th day at 11 a.m. to celebrate the ending of the first World War on Monday November 11th at 11 a.m.. In Canada the red poppy is our symbol; poppies on the fields of the Western Front in WW1 were a common sight.
