Franklin County Harvest Bloggers Tour—First Rate Lodging

53 Comments/ 5290/ 0

P1040041I hardly know where to start with sharing my past weekend in Franklin County but I decided to start with our lodging for the weekend.  The entire weekend was sponsored and paid for in full by the Franklin County Farm Bureau and Franklin County Tourism . I will be writing many posts about this event and that was an expectation of attending this weekend but I am thrilled to highlight all that we experienced over the weekend.  Trust me—it was a lot of fun.

Chris was able to make it back from Texas to enjoy the weekend with me and if truth be told I think he was  bit skeptical about what this weekend would be like. Remember he is the guy who was worried he would find me stuffed in a trunk by the side of the road somewhere when I went to meet a Minnesota blogger friend for the first time.  But right after we checked into Country Heritage Bed and Breakfast he realized that this was going to be a great weekend and we were going to have a blast.

Country Heritage Bed and Breakfast is a lovely old farmhouse that sits on 3 acres outside of Hampton, Iowa.   The inn boasts 4 bedrooms and a wonderful living/gathering area as well as a spacious dining area.

Our hosts for the weekend included Donnis (Her husband’s grandfather, Carl, is the one who built the farmhouse around 1921), Lacey and Crystal. They all worked together to ensure our weekend being the best it could be.  From checkin to checkout we were pampered and treated like royalty.

Chris and I were in the Country Elegance Suite at the top of the stairs.  It boasted a comfy queen size bed, a fireplace, an adorable balcony and a wonderful bathroom complete with whirlpool tub.

P1030619We thoroughly enjoyed our room and our stay at this Bed and Breakfast.  We have stayed at quite a few Bed and Breakfast establishments over the years here and abroad and it is always fun to see what the next one will offer. I would have to say Country Heritage B & B was definitely at the top of our list after this stay. Some have quirky rules that make us laugh. Some have odd proprietors.  Some have less than what is advertised—-in other words the pictures look better than the actual place.  Not so with Country Heritage B & B.

We were treated to a dinner on Saturday night and Lacey did a fabulous job of preparing 3 soups for our dining pleasure.  I had the Potato Soup and Chris had both the Wild Rice and the Vegetable Beef and all 3 were delicious.  So delicious I forgot to take pictures of all of them.  Dessert was a yummy Chocolate Rice Krispy creation or Pumpkin Delight. Which one do you think I chose?

Did I mention there were goats?  Oh yes!  Pygmy goats–one of my favorites.  Of course I spent a lot of time trying to pet the goats during the weekend and they were pretty darn adorable.

The Bed and Breakfast also has a wonderful little gift shop called The Giggling Goat.  You can find practically anything from items for the home to wine to other tasty treats.  If you pass this gift shop up you will be missing out on some fun things.
