Teapot Tuesday—-Sometimes Size Matters

71 Comments/ 4985/ 0

Isn’t this just an amazing little teapot?  I found this special teapot on Ebay and immediately fell in love with the unique and beautiful designs that literally cover the porcelain.  The spout is uniquely shaped and the craftsmanship looked impressive from the photographs that accompanied the listing.

3

However I found myself wondering—what do the characters on the back of the teapot say?  Do they say “enjoy your cup of tea”?  Do they say “This teapot is made in China”? Do they say “These words make absolutely no sense whatsoever”?  I will probably never know what they say.  They might even say “You need to check the dimension sizes of items when you order” because I was actually very surprised with this package arrived.

As you can see this is a teeny tiny teapot and I probably would not have purchased it if I had paid attention to the listing specifics.  While it is cute and adorable sometimes size does indeed matter and in this case I am wishing it was large enough to brew more than a half a cup of tea!  Lesson learned, right?  Maybe I can repurpose it into something else. Suggestions?

My tea quote today comes from my friend, Darlene, who blogs at Darlene Foster’s Blog where she has just revealed some amazing and exciting news. She found this quote in her readings and passed it along for me and I had to include it this week. I love it and am grateful to her for sharing it with me.

Strange how a teapot can represent at the same time

the comforts of solitude

and the pleasure of company.

Really like that quote. Normally I am a die hard coffee drinker. However on many cold winter nights a hot cup of tea does provide me some added warmth while reading or watching the birds.

I love coffee, too, Ozzie but that is usually my morning drink. Later on it is tea–all tea!

It’s adorable…but I’m thinking its an individual size teapot to use with those small 2-4 ounce sip cups that don’t even have a handle!! Love the quote.

Thanks for the mention. I am happy to share tea quotes with you. This is a sweet little teapot, perhaps an Asian friend can translate the back for you. It is probably best for a strong green tea like a matcha, that you don’t need much of to feel refreshed.

My Chinese Canadian friend Emma said the first 2 pairs of characters (vertical and starting from the right) mean “fragrance of tea permeates the air.” She thinks the rest mean something similar but is doing more research. HOpe this helps.

My friend did more research and here is the full meaning of the characters: “Rich in fragrance, charming colors, sweet and melodious sound as rhythmic flow of waters” Very lovely. When you tell your friends the meaning of the characters, they will think you are so clever!
