When a friend calls to me from the road
And slows his horse to a meaning walk,
I don’t stand still and look around
On all the hills I haven’t hoed,
And shout from where I am, What is it?
No, not as there is a time to talk.
I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground,
Blade-end up and five feet tall,
And plod: I go up to the stone wall
For a friendly visit.
Robert Frost
Friendship is important to me. I have been so blessed with friends all of my life. From my grade school friend who shares my name to my newish friends here in Connestee Falls I have more good friends than any one person deserves.
I have been thinking about friendship a lot lately. Friendship may look different to different people but to me it means simply being there for each other. Whatever that means.
It may mean just listening.
It may mean dropping off a dinner.
It may mean helping to organize a new kitchen.
It may mean helping clear out closets after the death of a loved one.
It may mean moving heaven and earth to make something happen for your friend that they really, really deserve.
It may mean leaving hidden post it notes with words of encouragement around someone’s house for them to find later.
It may mean just sitting quietly.
Whatever it is I have determined many years ago that it is worth the effort.
Friends drop what they are doing when another friend calls to tell them they need them.
Friends show up.
Friends support.
Friends love.
Friends comfort.
Friends care.
Thank you to each of you who takes the time to stop by and read. Thank you, friend. I love you and appreciate you.
